Our view of the service
Date of assessment: 1 May 2025. Home Instead Senior Care is a domiciliary care agency which provides personal care to people in their own homes. The service provides support for older people, people living with dementia and mental health needs. Younger adults with a range of needs including people with physical disabilities and sensory impairments. It also provides support for autistic people and people with learning disabilities. We completed a responsive assessment after receiving concerns about the service in relation to medicines administration and documentation. People were protected from avoidable harm. There were systems in place to review incidents and share any learning at both the location and provider level. Managers assessed people’s environments and ensured people and staff were safe. The service had robust contingency plans in place for unexpected situations such as adverse weather. People were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible and in their best interests; the policies and systems in the service supported this practice. People received their medicines safely. There were enough trained staff with the right skills, qualifications and experience. Staff understood their roles and responsibilities and felt confident to raise any concerns and share their thoughts and ideas. People were involved in assessments of their needs, which included people’s communication, personal and health needs. People were provided with information they could understand, and where needed the provider accommodated people’s changing communication needs. Staff protected people’s privacy and dignity and ensured people were given choices about how they would like their care to be delivered. People received person centred care which accommodated and was appropriately assessed when people chose to take risks. People, relatives and staff knew how to give feedback and were confident the registered manager took their views seriously and any concerns would be acted on upon. Leaders were visible, knowledgeable and supportive, helping staff develop in their roles. The service had a consistent management team which had quality systems in place to drive continuous improvements.
We have assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities. The overall rating for this service is good based on the findings of this inspection.
