Our view of the service
Date of assessment: site visit commenced on the 31 March 2025. The service is a care home providing nursing care to people. At our last assessment in September 2024, we rated the service requires improvement with a breach of legal regulations. This was because people’s care and support was not being documented as required. Following our assessment, the provider sent us an action plan on how they would meet the legal requirements. This assessment was completed to follow up the action plan and areas where the legal requirements needed to be met. We found most improvements had been made to documentation of people’s care planning and support needs. For example, improvements had been made to the documentation of care provided such as oral care, personal care and incontinence care. Although improvements were still needed for 1 person’s documentation within their care plan and what support they needed with their repositioning and care provided. We found improvements were needed to care people received around their diabetes care, dementia care and the care home environment.
We found at this assessment, people were not always being supported safely with their individual care needs. This is a breach of legal regulations around safe care and treatment. The overall rating of the service has remained requires improvement.
Although staff knew people well, we found some improvements were needed to ensure care staff received training in how to support people with their individual needs such as diabetes care. Visits were provided from the local GP surgery as needed. Snacks and fluids were available to people.
People's experience of this service
People and their relatives felt the care had improved recently. One person told us, “I’m happy with the care here.” One relative told us, “It’s brilliant, all staff are excellent.” Another relative told us, “A lot better than it was.” Although we received positive feedback about the care provided by staff, relative’s we spoke with felt improvements were needed to ensure there was enough staff and the staff team was consistent. During our inspection we observed 1 person needed assistance from a member of staff however, there was no staff available within the dining area to support them. The dining room had other residents who were either relaxing or finishing their meal. We raised this feedback to the service so they could review if there was sufficient staff available to support people.
