Governance, management and sustainability
The practice had a governance system that included policies and procedures, which were accessible to staff. However, the process for reviewing these needed strengthening to ensure policies and risk assessments were bespoke and reflected arrangements at the practice. We discussed this with staff, and they told us this would be addressed.
Systems and processes were mostly embedded, however the inspection highlighted some issues and omissions. Areas requiring improvement were rectified promptly and appropriately.
Staff were aware of the importance of protecting patients’ personal information. Staff password protected patients’ electronic care records, and paper records were stored securely and complied with General Data Protection Regulations.
The practice had installed CCTV cameras, however, a Data Protection Impact Assessment was not available on the day. This was completed in the days following the inspection.
There were processes for identifying and managing risks, investigating incidents and accidents, and for receiving and acting on safety alerts.
The practice had systems and processes for learning, quality assurance and continuous improvement. This included undertaking audits according to recognised guidance.
Staff told us they had not received any complaints in the last 12 months. We found that procedures were implemented to ensure any concerns and complaints received would be responded to appropriately.
Staff had clear responsibilities, and systems of accountability to support governance.
Staff feedback was obtained through meetings and informal discussions.
The practice had taken steps to improve environmental sustainability. For example, the practice has implemented a comprehensive recycling system.
