At this assessment the rating has remained good. This meant people were supported and treated with dignity and respect; and involved as partners in their care.

Kindness, compassion and dignity

The provider always treated people with kindness, empathy and compassion and respected their privacy and dignity. Staff treated colleagues from other organisations with kindness and respect. Staff knew people well and supported them in a caring and person-centred way. People told us they had good relationships with the staff and enjoyed their company.

Treating people as individuals

Score: 3

The provider treated people as individuals and made sure people’s care, support and treatment met people’s needs and preferences. They took account of people’s strengths, abilities, aspirations, culture and unique backgrounds and protected characteristics. People had opportunities to enjoy full and active lives and were supported to take part in activities which were socially and culturally relevant to them.

Independence, choice and control

The provider promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing. People were involved in decisions about their support and staff were keen to promote their independence. Support plans detailed activities people enjoyed, and staff ensured they supported people to maintain relationships.

Responding to people’s immediate needs

The provider listened to and understood people’s needs, views and wishes. Staff responded to people’s needs in the moment and acted to minimise any discomfort, concern or distress. Staff knew people well and interacted with them in a positive way and responded to immediate risks. People were supported to access healthcare professionals as required.

Workforce wellbeing and enablement

The provider cared about and promoted the wellbeing of their staff and supported and enabled staff to always deliver person-centred care. Staff told us they were happy working for the provider and felt supported. Staff had access to a staff handbook which detailed information regarding holiday pay, sickness benefit, maternity leave, adoption leave and pay, flexible working policy, parental leave and time off for dependents.
