Our view of the service

We carried out a short, announced assessment of the endoscopy service on 25 August 2026 using our comprehensive inspection methodology. We undertook the assessment because an extended period of time had passed since the service was last inspected on 1 and 9 June 2022.

Orpington Endoscopy Solutions Limited is the registered provider for Orpington Endoscopy Centre. The service received corporate and organisational support from a hospital through arrangements that also covered its satellite sites.

At this assessment, we did not identify any breaches of regulations.

During the assessment, we spoke with staff across the centre, including registered nurses (RN), senior healthcare assistants (SHCA), the registered and clinical manager, a consultant endoscopist, an endoscopy decontamination technician, the centre operations manager, clinical lead, practice manager, nominated individual and Medical Advisory Committee (MAC) chair. We also received feedback from 2 patients and their relatives.

People's experience of this service

Activity was low on the day of assessment, with 2 procedures taking place. We therefore obtained feedback from 2 patients and their relatives.

Patients said staff treated them with kindness and respect, involved them in decisions and allowed time for questions without making them feel rushed. One patient received clear information about their procedure and associated risks and discussed these with their consultant before treatment. Another patient with hearing difficulties said staff adapted their communication, enabled lip reading and provided practical support when required. Both patients described their care positively and said they would recommend the service.

Patient experience data provided by the service showed positive satisfaction levels and was consistent with the feedback received during the assessment.

The service used patient feedback to make improvements. In response to concerns about reception waiting times, fasting instructions and pre-procedure communication, it increased updates to patients in reception, provided fasting instructions verbally and by email, and introduced additional checks to confirm patients had received pre-procedure information.
