Governance, management and sustainability
The practice had a governance system that included policies and procedures, which were accessible to staff and were reviewed on a regular basis.
Systems and processes were generally embedded. The inspection highlighted minor issues and omissions. Areas requiring improvement were acted on immediately.
Staff were aware of the importance of protecting patients’ personal information. Staff password protected patients’ electronic care records, and paper records were stored securely and complied with General Data Protection Regulations.
The provider described the processes in place to investigate incidents and accidents and told us that safety alerts were received via emails. We reviewed complaints received by the practice and found that these were handled appropriately.
The practice had systems and processes for learning and quality assurance. However, they did not routinely audit the practice antimicrobial prescribing and dispensing.
Staff feedback was obtained through meetings, surveys, and informal discussions. They were encouraged to offer suggestions for improvements to the service, and they said these were listened to and acted upon, where appropriate. For example, an additional staff member was recruited to handle incoming referrals to reduce workload on reception staff.
Feedback from patients and external partners was collected to which the practice responded. For example, the practice expanded specialist clinician sessions to accommodate increased service demand.
The practice had taken steps to improve environmental sustainability. For example, most work processes were digitised, and staff were encouraged to consider sustainable options when ordering dental supplies.
