Our view of the service

Date of assessment: 8 July to 24 August 2026.

Jackson House is a small care home providing accommodation, nursing and personal care for up to 4 people. The service provides support to older people and younger adults, autistic people, people with a learning disability, dementia, sensory impairments or a mental health diagnosis.

At the time of our assessment there were 4 people using the service. At the last inspection the rating was good, at this assessment the rating remains good.

We assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted.

The environment was pleasantly decorated and was clean. There were sufficient staffing levels within the service and safe recruitment systems were in place. Staff felt they could raise concerns.

Staff supported people in a kind and dignified way. We observed positive interactions between staff and people.

People had access to nutritious home cooked food and mealtimes were unrushed and relaxed. People were supported to access routine medical appointments when needed.

The provider worked collaboratively with other health professionals to support people. Health professionals reported no concerns.

Care plans were appropriately tailored to individuals’ preferences and needs. However, some care records required more information to ensure staff could support people more effectively and incidents were not always appropriately reported.

Focus was needed to strengthen governance and audit processes in identifying risk to people, however, the registered manager and the wider management team was responsive to any feedback we gave during the assessment.

People's experience of this service

People were treated with kindness, empathy and compassion. We observed frequent warm interactions with people, and staff treated people with dignity and respect. Staff knew people well and encouraged people to make decisions regarding their daily routine and be as independent as possible. People were supported to have choice and control of their lives and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible. People appreciated the range of activities and outings available, including access to the local community. People knew staff and the management team well.

Some people could not directly tell us about their experience. We used a structured observation tool to assess whether they received good care. This approach showed people were included and listened to and staff consistently interacted positively with them. People knew staff and the management team well.

Feedback from relatives was mainly positive. One relative told us, "They cook lovely dinners, they are wonderful chefs," "They know exactly how to look after [Name]" and "[Name] is very happy, settled and feels comfortable living there." Another relative told us they had no safety concerns. However, one relative told us they were not always involved in their loved one's care as much as they would like to be. The registered manager had already begun implementing measures to support this, demonstrating a commitment to partnership working and person-centred care.
