Our view of the service
Date of assessment: 7th April to 17th April 2026.
Himley Manor Care Home is a residential care home registered to accommodate up to 47 people. At the time of the assessment, 42 people were living in the home. The last rating for Himley Manor Care Home was requires improvement and they breached legal regulation related to safe care and governance. The overall rating for Himley Manor Care Home has improved to good, this is based on the findings at this assessment, the service was no longer in breach of any regulations.
People were protected from the risk of harm and abuse. Staff demonstrated a good understanding of safeguarding procedures and reported concerns promptly. Care records were personalised and regularly reviewed using recognised assessment tools, which supported care to remain relevant and up-to-date. Staff worked closely with external professionals and referrals to healthcare services were made promptly when required.
Staff knew people well and understood individual needs. Interactions were kind, respectful and dignified. People had access to nutritious, home-cooked meals. Mealtimes were unrushed and relaxed, which encouraged social interaction and promoted a positive dining experience.
At the time of the assessment there was not a registered manager in post following the departure of the previous registered manager the week before our site visit. The provider ensured there were effective management oversight and the deputy manager confidently supported the assessment. The deputy manager operated an open-door approach, was highly visible and approachable throughout the home. People and their relatives were encouraged to share feedback, and staff responded to concerns promptly and appropriately. Although newly appointed, the deputy manager showed a clear commitment to maintaining and strengthening standards of care. Several new governance systems had already been introduced, which staff and people reported had a positive impact on the service.
People's experience of this service
Feedback was gathered from people living in the home and from their relatives. People and their relatives spoke positively about their experiences. People told us they felt happy, well cared for and safe. Comments included, “I am well looked after,”; “I enjoy it here,” and, “I’ve been here a long time and I have no concerns.”
We observed interactions between people and staff during the assessment. These were kind, caring and considerate. Staff listened to people, respected their choices and adapted their approach to meet individual needs.
Relatives also provided positive feedback. One relative said, “[Person] is happy here and well looked after,” and another told us, “Staff communicate well with us.”
People were supported to take part in activities they enjoyed and chose to participate in. Where possible, people were supported to leave the home to access social activities in the community, which helped promote independence and social inclusion.
