Our view of the service
Dates of assessment: 22 to 24 July 2026. We visited the service on the 22 and 23 July 2026.Crimson Manor provides accommodation and personal care for up to 20 older people, some of whom may be living with dementia. At the time of the assessment, 18 people were living at the service.
The last comprehensive assessment was carried out in January and February 2025, and the service was rated inadequate. Breaches of 5 legal regulations were recorded in relation to safe care and treatment, dignity and respect, premises and equipment, staffing and good governance. At this assessment we found the provider was not in breach of these regulations.
People received personalised care from staff who knew them well, had a good understanding of their needs and treated them with kindness, respect and compassion. Care records were person centred focusing on the individual’s desired outcomes and providing staff with clear guidance on how to deliver care and support safely and consistently.
There were enough staff to meet people’s needs and a presence was maintained in communal areas. Staff were trained, received regular supervision and worked well together as a team. Medicines were managed safely. Risks to people were assessed and mitigated. Safeguarding processes were robust, with good oversight of Deprivation of Liberty [DoLS] applications.
People’s nutritional needs were met with a good variety of homemade meals, snacks and drinks provided, including daily freshly baked bread. A range of activities were provided both in-house and out in the community.
The home was clean, odours identified in 2 rooms were addressed promptly. Staff wore PPE and hand hygiene facilities were available throughout the home. Infection prevention guidance regarding staff nail coverings had been adapted by the provider rather than fully aligned with best practice guidance.
Parts of the environment had been refurbished including a new bathroom and upgraded laundry facilities. Some environmental concerns identified during the assessment were addressed promptly. Personal emergency evacuation plans were held electronically within care records and the provider confirmed these records could still be accessed in the event of an internet connectivity failure.
Governance arrangements were effective, with comprehensive audits, digital compliance systems and improvement plans supporting quality monitoring and service development. A new registered manager had recently joined the service and worked alongside the existing registered manager, who is also the provider.
This service has been in Special Measures since 28 November 2025. The service is no longer rated as inadequate overall or in any of the key questions. Therefore, this service is no longer in Special Measures.
