Our view of the service

Date of Assessment: 04 February 2026 to 12 March 2026. Field House Residential Care Home for the Elderly is a residential care home. The service provides personal care and accommodation in one adapted building to up to 55 older people, some of whom live with dementia. At the time of the inspection 53 people were receiving the service. We carried out this assessment in response to concerns we received about the management of the service. The provider was previously in breach of the legal regulations in relation to safe care and treatment and governance. Improvements had been found at this assessment, and the provider was no longer in breach of these regulations.

People experienced safe, compassionate and personalised care. Staff were warm, respectful and attentive, and relatives described the home as a supportive, welcoming and responsive service. Staff knew people well and used this knowledge to tailor care, support choices and promote independence. People felt valued and told us care was delivered in a calm and unhurried way that upheld their dignity.

The provider demonstrated a proactive approach to safety, based on openness and honesty. Leaders and staff had a shared vision with a focus on learning and continual improvement. Leaders were visible, knowledgeable and supportive, helping staff develop in their roles. People, relatives and staff felt supported to give feedback and felt their contributions were valued. Staff acted promptly when needs changed and worked well alongside a range of health and social care professionals to ensure continuity of care.

People's experience of this service

We observed staff interacting with people and used a structured observation tool to understand people's experience of care. We saw positive interactions between people and staff. We observed support was provided compassionately and was not rushed. This was reflected in feedback from relatives. One family member told us, “They [staff] are never in a rush, they show [relative] so much love and they are really patient.” People and their relatives told us they experienced kind, warm and person‑centred care. A relative told us, “[Staff] have been very caring from day one, they have been lovely. Also, very respectful with dignity. I have no concerns.” Another relative told us, “They [staff] treat [name] like a princess…they are absolutely lovely.” People and their relatives were confident staff understood their needs and preferences well. People were involved in decisions about their care, and relatives felt included and listened to.
