Our view of the service
Date of Assessment: 25 February to 03 March 2025.
Alexander House is a residential care home providing personal care for up to 16 people.
This assessment was prompted in part due to concerns received about the culture within the service and how the service was managed. A decision was made for us to inspect and examine those risks.
Based on the findings of this assessment the service has been rated Good . However, we found there was a breach in relation to governance procedures. This was because we found that risk to the environment were not always managed to keep people safe as possible as and the provider did not submit all statutory notifications to the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
There was a culture of learning from incidents and accidents that took place. Staff recruitment practices were thorough and staff received appropriate induction and training which helped them to support people in a competent way. The provider managed identified risks to people, including those in relation to medicines and infection.
The management of the service was consistent and stable, feedback from staff indicated that the service was managed well. However, we found that governance systems were not always operated effectively as described above. Managers and staff worked in partnership with external professionals and bodies.
The provider was in breach of the legal regulation relating to good governance. We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.
