Our view of the service
We carried out this announced on-site inspection on 23 September 2026.
We found the practice had met regulations.
The practice had effective systems to identify and manage risks, including infection prevention and control.
Staff had the skills, knowledge and experience to carry out their roles.
Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation and there was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement.
Staff provided care and treatment in line with current guidance. They treated patients with dignity and respect and ensured access to care, support, and treatment when required.
40 Harley Street is in the London Borough of Westminster and provides private dental care and treatment for adults and very few children. The practice was open 4 to 5 times per month.
The practice had 1 treatment room. At the time of our inspection, there was a total of 6 staff, of which there were the principal dentist, a hygienist and another dentist who occasionally worked as a chairside assistant. The practice was also supported by an agency nurse, a remote administrator/receptionist and a compliance manager. We spoke to the principal dentist and the compliance manager during our inspection.
People's experience of this service
Two weeks before our inspection, we asked the practice to encourage patients to share their views of the service with us. We reviewed patient feedback we received, and feedback routinely obtained by the practice. Patient feedback provided a positive view of the dental team and care provided by the practice.
Feedback told us that patients valued the reliable, professional and courteous care they received. They highlighted the team's responsiveness, compassion and ability to put them at ease.
Patients commented positively about the standards of cleanliness. They valued the clean environment and reported that the high standards of care had helped them maintain good oral health and reduce the need for further treatment over time.
Patients felt able to book appointments within an acceptable timescale for their needs and said they had enough time during their appointment without feeling rushed. One patient told us that the principal dentist had replied to worried emails from them over the weekend. As the practice was not open on set days, appointments could be made on demand at times which were convenient to each patient.
Patients told us they were given clear information to help them make an informed choice about their treatment and any associated costs. They were involved in decisions about their care. Patients also reported that the high standard of treatment had helped them maintain excellent oral health and confidence in their dental care.
Patients told us that they were supported to maintain their oral health and were provided with appropriate information and resources. They described the care as thorough, professional and personalised, with attention given to their overall health and lifestyle as well as their oral health.
