Our view of the service
Date of Inspection: 14 to 16 April 2026.
St Mary’s Nursing Home is a care home which provides nursing care to people. Most people move to the home following discharge from hospital. Some people living at St Mary’s Nursing Home lived with dementia, or had complex health needs. The home presented as clean and areas of the home were being refurbished at the time of the inspection.
Staff understood how to support people effectively and promote their safety. Staff were aware of each person’s communication preferences and respected people’s individual choices and wishes.
Staff felt confident raising concerns about people’s safety, and senior staff regularly monitored the quality and safety of the care being provided. Staff worked well with partner organisations to support people’s rights and ensure their needs were met.
The management team planned to strengthen communication with people, relatives and staff so the culture of the home continued to reflect what mattered to people, and to make sure governance checks promptly identified and improved people’s outcomes.
People's experience of this service
People spoke positively about the care they received and the staff who cared for them. People were supported to stay connected with their family members. Relatives could visit people whenever they wished.
People and their families were actively involved in making decisions about the care and support they received. Staff treated people fairly, and their equality, individual preferences, and social needs were consistently respected and met.
Relatives told us the quality of care was good. One relative said, “I don’t think they could improve things here, not in relation to the care.”
People’s rights were respected and their health was monitored. Staff helped people access support from other health and social care professionals when they wanted it.
