Our view of the service

We carried out this announced, on-site inspection on 8 July 2025.

We found the practice had not met all regulations.

The practice had systems to identify and manage risks, including infection prevention and control, but improvements were needed to ensure these were consistently effective.

Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation, but improvements were needed in record keeping and risk assessments to strengthen compliance.

Staff had the skills, knowledge and experience to carry out their roles.

Staff provided care and treatment in line with current guidance. They treated patients with dignity and respect and ensured access to care, support, and treatment when required.

Bradford Urgent Dental Centre is part of Night Dental Ltd, a dental group provider. The practice is in Bradford and provides NHS emergency dental care and treatment for adults and children.

There was step-free access to the practice and car parking spaces available outside the practice.

The practice had 2 treatment rooms. At the time of our inspection, there was a total of 20 staff, including 8 dentists, 7 dental nurses, 4 receptionists and the operations manager. We gathered feedback from staff and spoke to a range of staff during our inspection, including 2 dentists, 2 dental nurses, 1 receptionist and the operations manager. Two additional operations managers from the group and a service manager from a sister practice were also at the inspection, supporting the team.

The provider was not complying with Regulation 17, good governance. Full details of the regulation the provider was not meeting are within the inspection report.

We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this inspection

People's experience of this service

Two weeks before our on-site inspection, we asked the practice to encourage patients to share their views of the service with us. We did not receive any direct patient feedback.

On the day of our inspection, we saw patient feedback from a further 3 patients. Patient feedback provided a positive view of the dental team and care provided by the practice.

We reviewed online patient feedback. Overall, patients expressed satisfaction with the treatment they received. Comments included: “Had an appointment today through 111 due to a cracked tooth, which was causing intermittent severe pain. The staff were friendly on arrival and the female dentist was professional and made me feel comfortable. I could not fault the facility”, “I can't thank everyone at Night Dental enough for the treatment I've received there. I've been a few times with the same problem tooth which has now been removed. After being seen by 3 different dentists for infection and eventually extraction I cannot understand how there are any negative reviews. I'm an extremely anxious patient and the 3 dentists I've seen and all of the nurses have been nothing but kind, patient, compassionate and understanding”, “I was sent here after ringing the 111 number, I can't fault them one bit, the dentist I saw explained all my options to me. He kept asking if I was alright both him and his assistant kept me at ease.”

The practice shared patient feedback with the team, who reviewed it regularly and took appropriate actions where concerns or suggestions were raised. For example, some patients expressed concerns about the treatment options available during urgent appointments. We discussed this to support the team in managing patient concerns and expectations, acknowledging their efforts to address these challenges. The team were committed to reviewing their protocols to help close the gap in patient understanding.
