Our view of the service
Date of assessment: 6 – 11 November 2025. Butterley House is a residential care home providing personal and nursing care to 36 people aged 65 and over at the time of the inspection. The service can support up to 37 people.
The accommodation is provided over two floors. The upper floor has bedrooms, toilet and bathing facilities. The downstairs also has bedrooms and toilet and bathing facilities with the addition of communal spaces, a conservatory, a lounge and a dining space.
We assessed the key questions of Safe and Well Led. The reason for the inspection was due to a Requires Improvement rating when we previously inspected in September 2024, where we found 4 breaches of the legal regulations relating to safe care, governance, staff training and safeguarding.
During this inspection we found some improvements had been made - for example leaders and staff knew people well and were caring about meeting their needs. The provider ensured there were enough trained staff on shift to keep people safe, and there were some improvements in governance from our previous inspection.
However, we found leaders did not always have sufficient oversight over the training and supervision of staff. We found that the provider did not always assess and mitigate risk appropriately. Some people’s care plans lacked detail on their known risks, and the provider did not always apply reflective practice and a learning approach to care.
The provider was in breach of legal regulation relating to safe care and treatment.
People's experience of this service
The people we spoke with were positive about the provider and were relaxed and settled in the care home environment. People told us they felt safe and did not have any concerns. We observed people interacting positively with staff in communal areas and in the dining room at mealtimes. People were positive about the food that was provided to them and said there was plenty of choice.
