Well-led
We looked for evidence that service leadership, management and governance assured high-quality, person-centred care; supported learning and innovation; and promoted an open, fair culture. At our last assessment, we rated this key question as good. At this assessment, the rating remains the same.
This service scored 79 (out of 100) for this area. Find out what we look at when we assess this area and How we calculate these scores.
The service had a clear and positive shared vision, strategy and culture that was understood and supported by staff. This was based on transparency, equity, equality and human rights, diversity and inclusion, through engaging and understanding the challenges and the needs of the practice patients and community.
The service monitored and reviewed progress against the delivery of their strategy and they demonstrated a positive and compassionate listening culture that focused on learning and development. There was evidence the practice had an established positive learning culture that valued feedback from patients, staff, and external stakeholders. Considering the practice scale of operation of less than 10 thousand patients and proportionally sized resource, staff showed a strong commitment and capability to drive and deliver improvements through partnership working, and by developing services from within its own resources without external funding.
Staff we spoke to told us they were supportive of and supported by the leadership and management team, the culture and direction of the service, and each other. Staff told us leaders were approachable and took the time to listen and there was a no blame culture. There was an appropriate whistleblowing procedure, which staff understood and could navigate to. We noted that staff suggestions for improvement were heard and implemented where appropriate, such as to improve the patient call and recall system.
The practice was an established teaching and training practice, supporting GP registrars and providing teaching placements for medical students. One of the GP partners had also been nominated for GP Tutor of the Year Awards, including from the Queen Mary University of London since 2021. At the time of our assessment, the practice had just received a 2026 Supporting the Student Experience Award, from Imperial College London.
The themes reflected in patients feedback and survey results reflected a culture where patients felt respected, supported and treated with dignity, and where staff interactions contributed positively to patients trust and confidence in their care.
We saw evidence of the practice’s ongoing commitment to managing risks relating to the delivery of their vision and strategy of improving local healthcare services, including local relevant factors. Leaders were actively pursuing investment to enhance the practice premises as a community health and wellbeing hub, with work already underway to increase capacity for community-based services and support the delivery of more accessible, inclusive and integrated care.

Governance, management and sustainability
The service had clear responsibilities, roles, systems of accountability and good governance. These were used to manage and deliver good quality, sustainable care, treatment and support. Staff acted on the best information about risk, performance and outcomes, and shared this securely with others when appropriate.
There were clear staffing structures and all 10 staff we spoke with were clear on their individual roles and responsibilities. Practice specific policies were implemented and were available to all staff.
A comprehensive understanding of the performance of the practice was maintained including programme of clinical audit that was used to monitor quality and to make improvements. There were arrangements for identifying, recording and managing risks and issues including any business continuity, clinical, premises, workforce, digital and supplier risks. A risk log that was kept and reviewed.
Leaders and managers were aware of and improving systems and performance where needed, including to ensure oversight of some areas of staff training needed and childhood immunisations and cancer screening. Leaders proactively supported staff and regularly met with them to complete appraisals and performance reviews. The provider had established governance processes in relation to the quality statements we reviewed during this assessment, which were appropriate for their service.
Staff could access all required policies and procedures, which were kept up to date and reflected latest guidance. Leaders held regular meetings with staff, during which they discussed emerging risks and potential improvements to the service. Leaders clearly recorded any actions that arose from these meetings and shared these with staff.
Staff took confidentiality and information security seriously, which included verifying people’s identity during remote consultations. Systems were in place to ensure teams submitted data and notifications to external agencies as required.
