Caring
We looked for evidence the service involved people and treated them with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect. This was a focused assessment, which meant we did not assess all quality statements. Our rating is determined from the findings of both this assessment and our previous assessments. At our last assessment, we rated this key question as outstanding and this remains unchanged due to the focused nature of this assessment. However, updated quality statement scores have been issued where relevant.
This service scored 90 (out of 100) for this area. Find out what we look at when we assess this area and How we calculate these scores.
Kindness, compassion and dignity
The service overall treated people with kindness, empathy and compassion and respected their privacy and dignity. Staff treated colleagues from other organisations with kindness and respect.
The service had arrangements to promote people’s privacy. During our site visit we observed staff knock on consultation rooms and wait prior to entry. Privacy curtains were available in consultation rooms in addition to a portable privacy screen in the patient waiting area, in the event of a medical emergency. Staff demonstrated a clear understanding of how they promoted privacy and dignity in their work.
The service had performed better than both local and national averages in the results of the 2025 National GP Patient Survey. This showed people felt listened to and felt they were treated with kindness. For example, 90% of respondents to the survey felt the healthcare professional at their last appointment was good at treating them with care and concern, compared to the local and national average of 86%. This was mirrored in feedback from people we spoke with during our site visit who described staff as “caring” and “friendly”.
Feedback we received through our Give Feedback on Care service, a way for the public to share their experiences about services, was mainly positive regarding how people were treated. Staff were described as “helpful”, “kind”, “polite” and “professional”. One patient described 1 clinician as “dismissive”. The practice had gained positive feedback through the Friends and Family Test (FFT) with staff being described as “good listeners”, “friendly”, “caring”, “understanding” and “supportive”.
Staff we spoke with understood the process to ensure young adults had control over their own privacy and the amount of parental involvement in managing their care and support.
