Our view of the service

Date of assessment: 23 and 28 October 2025.

Royal Arsenal Medical Centre is a GP practice and delivers service to 11610 patients under a contract held with NHS England. Royal Arsenal Medical Centre is located at 21 Arsenal Way, Royal Arsenal, London, SE18 6TE.

The National General Practice Profiles states that the ethnic make-up of the practice area is 47.27% White, 24.96% Black, 16.28% Asian, 6.64% Mixed and 4.85% Other.

Information published by Office for Health Improvement and Disparities shows that deprivation within the practice population group is in the 6th decile (6 of 10). The lower the decile, the more deprived the practice population is relative to others. This assessment considered the demographics of the people using the service, the context the service was working within and how this impacted service delivery.

Managers investigated incidents thoroughly. Staff understood and managed risks. The facilities and equipment met the needs of people, were clean and well-maintained and any risks mitigated. Managers made sure staff received training and regular appraisals to maintain high-quality care. Some staff reported that learning was not always communicated effectively. Medication reviews did not always contain sufficient detail. Monitoring of patients prescribed certain high-risk medicines was not always completed in line with national guidelines. The practice did not always inform patients of the associated risks of taking certain medicines.

Leaders were visible and supportive, and helped staff develop in their roles. Staff felt supported to give feedback and reported they were treated fairly. Staff understood their roles and responsibilities.

Since the last inspection, the practice had made several improvements. However, these were not fully consistent, especially in clinical areas, and we found breaches of regulation in relation to safe care and treatment. In instances where CQC have decided to take civil or criminal enforcement action against a provider, we will publish this information on our website after any representations and/or appeals have been concluded.

People's experience of this service

People had mixed reviews about the quality of their care and treatment. Recent survey results from the National GP Patient Survey showed mixed results on how satisfied they were with services. The practice Patient Participation Group (PPG) was limited in membership, and the practice reported difficulty in recruiting new members. The practice displayed signage in the reception area to encourage further membership. At the time of our assessment, there were gaps in the monitoring of patients treated for certain long-term conditions and for those who were prescribed certain medicines, therefore having a potential negative impact on patient experience.
