Our view of the service
Date of Assessment: 19 January 2026 to 22 January 2026. Drs T A Underwood M A Thompson is a GP practice and delivers service to approximately 15000 patients under a contract held with NHS England. The National General Practice Profiles state that the practice population is 75% White, 13% Asian, 6% Black, 5% Mixed and 1%. Other Information published by Office for Health Improvement and Disparities shows that deprivation within the practice population group is in the 8 decile (8 of 10). The lower the decile, the more deprived the practice population is relative to others. This assessment considered the demographics of the people using the service, the context the service was working within and how this impacted service delivery. Where relevant, further commentary is provided in the quality statements section of this report.
The provider delivered services across two sites, Tilehurst Village Surgery and Chancellor House Surgery, with staff working across both sites under the leadership of two GP Partners.
We carried out an announced inspection due to the length of time since the last inspection in 2016.
People's experience of this service
People were positive about the quality of their care and treatment. Recent internal patient survey results and the NHS Friends and Family Test showed people were satisfied with services. Over the last 12 months, CQC had not received any negative comments or concerns from patients regarding their care and treatment.
The practice had a Patient Participation Group (PPG). While membership reduced during the last few years, recruitment efforts were continued. Following the inspection, the provider provided evidence to show a meeting had been held with members of the PPG after our onsite visit.
We noted the practice had been engaging with patients through regular newsletters and social media engagement and, patient feedback had informed improvements, including enhancements to reception confidentiality and better access.
