Equity in access
The service did not always ensure that people could access the care, support and treatment they needed when they needed it.
The 2026 National GP Patient Survey showed the service performed below the national average for contacting the GP practice. The survey showed 57% of respondents described their overall experience of contacting this service as being good, compared to a national average of 73%. However, the practice friends and family survey (May 26) showed that 94% of patients felt they had a positive experience and of that 150 out of the 185 patients who responded felt their experience with the surgery was very good. Patients were offered an appointment in order of clinical priority and patients we spoke with confirmed they had been offered a same day appointment when appropriate.
Leaders recognised concerns about the time taken for patients to obtain an appointment and had plans in place to improve access. A new local branch surgery, pending CQC registration, was due to open in Lightmoor within the next few months. This would provide additional clinical space and enable the practice to offer more appointments. The practice was also recruiting additional staff to support the increased capacity and meet anticipated demand.
