Our view of the service

Date of Assessment: 16 September 2025 to 18 September 2025.

Coleridge Medical Centre is a GP practice that delivers services to approximately 15,844 patients, under a contract held with NHS England. The service is based in Ottery St. Mary and has a branch site in Whimple. The National General Practice Profiles state 98% of the practice population are white, 0.7% Asian, 0% Black, 1.1% mixed and 0.2% other. Information published by Office for Health Improvement and Disparities shows that deprivation within the practice population group is in the 10th decile (10 of 10). The lower the decile, the more deprived the practice population is relative to others. The service has a higher-than-average population of people aged 60-69 years. This assessment considered the demographics of the people using the service, the context the service was working within and how this impacted service delivery. Where relevant, further commentary is provided in the quality statements section of this report.

Since the last inspections in April 2023, the service had made improvements and is no longer in breach of Regulations of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014 – Regulation 12: Safe care and treatment.

People's experience of this service

People were positive about the quality of their care and treatment. Recent survey results, including from the National GP Patient Survey and the NHS Friends and Family Test, showed people were satisfied with services. As part of our assessment, we asked the practice to share a feedback link with patients, which generated 10 responses. These responses reflected a mixed range of views in relation to access to appointments being difficult and being positive about helpful staff, as well as receiving good care and treatment.
