Our view of the service

Moss Street Surgery is a GP practice and delivers service to around 4978 patients under a contract held with NHS England. The National General Practice Profiles states the practice demographic as: White, 96.92%, Asian,1%, Mixed, 1.4%, Black, 0.5%, Other, 0.2%. Information published by Office for Health Improvement and Disparities shows that deprivation within the practice population group is in the 4 decile (4 of 10). The lower the decile, the more deprived the practice population is relative to others. This assessment considered the demographics of the people using the service, the context the service was working within and how this impacted service delivery. Where relevant, further commentary is provided in the quality statements section of this report.

People's experience of this service

People were positive about the quality of their care and treatment. Recent survey results, including from the National GP Patient Survey and the NHS Friends and Family Test, showed people were satisfied with services. There was an active patient participation group (PPG) who represented the views of people using the service. Representatives from the PPG described how managers made positive changes because of feedback, such as increasing prebookable appointment availability and acting on Friends and Family Test (FFT) feedback. Twelve patients submitted feedback to the CQC: the majority were positive, with seven describing excellent clinical care and four praising reception staff. Issues raised included telephone access at 8am, difficulty obtaining a child’s appointment, and communication challenges when staff wore face masks. Four patients spoken with onsite were positive but unaware of the pre-bookable appointment system. One patient reported on their undocumented consultation records; the practice acted appropriately, mitigated risks, and engaged with the relevant professional bodies. All feedback was summarised and shared with the service to support improvement.
