Our view of the service

Date of Assessment: 25 June and 26 June 2026. Somerford Grove Practice is a GP practice and delivers service to 11044 patients under a contract held with NHS England. The National General Practice Profile states that 51.3% of patients identify as White, 21.6% as Black, 10.9% as Asian, 8.7% as Other ethnic groups and 7.4% as Mixed ethnicity. The age profile showed the largest proportion of patients were adults aged between 25 and 49 years, with comparatively smaller numbers of older people aged over 75 years and children aged under 10 years. This demographic profile indicated that the service supported a relatively young and ethnically diverse urban population, which may have influenced the health needs of the community and the way services were planned and delivered.

Information published by the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities shows that deprivation within the practice population group is in the 3rd decile (3 of 10). The lower the decile, the more deprived the practice population is relative to others. This assessment considered the demographics of the people using the service, the context the service was working within and how this impacted service delivery. Where relevant, further commentary is provided in the quality statements section of this report.

We undertook this assessment due to the time elapsed since the previous inspection. This was a comprehensive assessment. We assessed 33 quality statements, across five key questions.

The service has been rated good overall and in each key question.

People's experience of this service

People were positive about the quality of their care and treatment. The 2026 national GP Patient Survey (114 respondents) results were significantly above local and national averages across several areas. Of respondents, 89% described their overall experience of the service as good, compared with 71% locally and 77% nationally. Results were also above local and national averages for kindness, involvement in decisions, support for long-term conditions, administrative support and access to appointments.

There was an active patient participation group (PPG) who represented the views of people using the service. A representative from the PPG described how managers made positive changes because of feedback, such as implementing a new phlebotomy service at the practice and increasing evening and weekend appointment availability.
