Our view of the service
Date of Assessment: 26.05.2026 to 01.06.2026. The Argyle Surgery is a GP practice that operates under a General Medical Services (GMS) contract in the London Borough of Ealing.The practice delivers services to 7,343 patients under a contract held with NHS England. At our last assessment in September 2016 the practice had 6 partners and had an additional alternative primary medical services (APMS) contract for 960 care home residents in the borough. At this assessment in June 2026, the practice has 10 partners and leaders informed us that they relinquished the APMS contracts in 2024 due to funding cuts.
The National General Practice Profiles states that the ethnic make-up of the service is 55.9% White, 17% Asian, 11% Black, 6.5% Mixed and 9.5% Other. Information published by Office for Health Improvement and Disparities shows that deprivation within the practice population group is in the 5th decile (5 of 10). The lower the decile, the more deprived the practice population is relative to others. This assessment considered the demographics of the people using the service, the context the service was working within and how this impacted service delivery. Where relevant, further commentary is provided in the quality statements section of this report.
The service had a good learning culture and people could raise concerns. Managers investigated incidents thoroughly. Staff understood and managed risks. The facilities and equipment met the needs of people, were clean and well-maintained and any risks mitigated. Managers made sure staff received training and regular appraisals to maintain high-quality care.
Staff reviewed assessments taking account of people’s communication, personal and health needs. Care was usually based on latest evidence and good practice, however we found that improvements were needed for asthma care. Staff worked with all agencies involved in people’s care for the best outcomes and smooth transitions when moving services. Staff involved those important to people took decisions in people’s best interests where they did not have capacity.
People were treated with kindness and compassion. Staff protected their privacy and dignity. They treated them as individuals and supported their preferences. People had choice in their care and treatment. The service supported staff wellbeing.
The service provided information people could understand. People received fair and equal care and treatment. The service worked to reduce health and care inequalities through training and feedback. People were involved in planning their care and understood options around choosing to withdraw or not receive care.
Leaders were visible, knowledgeable and supportive, helping staff develop in their roles. Staff felt supported to give feedback and were treated equally, free from bullying or harassment. Staff understood their roles and responsibilities. Managers worked with the local community to deliver the best possible care and were receptive to new ideas. There was a culture of continuous improvement with staff given time and resources to try new ideas.
People's experience of this service
People were positive about the quality of their care and treatment. Recent survey results, including from the National GP Patient Survey 2026 and the NHS Friends and Family Test, showed people were satisfied with services. The results of the National GP Patient survey 2026 were published after the assessment and provide the most recent results from patients. There was an active patient participation group (PPG) who represented the views of people using the service. The PPG chair spoke positively about the practice, highlighting its patient- centred approach and openness with patients.
We asked the practice to invite patients to share their experience of the service via the Give Feedback on Care form on the Care Quality Commission’s website. We received 2 positive responses and no negative responses. The overall feedback from patients and staff gathered from the inspection was positive.
