Equity in access
The service made sure people could access the care, support and treatment they needed when they needed it.
The service performed better than both local and national averages in the results of the 2025 National GP Patient Survey. This showed people could access the service when they needed it in a way that suited their needs, such as by telephone or in person. For example, 87% of respondents to the survey described their overall experience of this service was being good, compared to a local average of 77% and a national average of 75%. However, responders also indicated online access was a challenge as 53% people said it was easy to contact this GP using their website compared with a local average of 58% and national average of 51%.
In response to feedback from people who used the service, staff had made changes to improve access. This included a recent analysis of phone call requests coming into the service which was used to help support and design the new total triage system being implemented in the coming weeks. Communication had been sent out so people were aware of the planned changes and there were posters up around the premises.
Treatment rooms were available on the ground floor, with level access and automatic doors at the entrance doors to ease access to the service.
Equity in experiences and outcomes
Staff and leaders actively listened to information about people who were most likely to experience inequality in experience or outcomes. They tailored their care, support and treatment in response to this.
Staff treated people equally and without discrimination. Leaders proactively sought ways to address any barriers to improving people’s experience and worked with local services to address any local health inequalities. For example, the service had recognised a lack of awareness for people that identified as LGBTQ+ and added this to the mandatory training list for all staff to complete.
Staff had completed training in equality and diversity and learning disability and autism awareness. Staff understood the importance of providing an inclusive approach to care and made adjustments to support equity in people’s experience and outcomes. Staff followed processes to ensure people could register at the service, including those in vulnerable circumstances. For example, Travellers could register with temporary registration and would be prioritised for appointments.
Staff used systems to capture and review feedback from people who used the service.
