We looked for evidence the practice involved people and treated them with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect. At our last assessment, we rated this key question as good.

Kindness, compassion and dignity

Score: 3

The practice always treated people with kindness, empathy and compassion and respected their privacy and dignity. Staff treated colleagues from other organisations with kindness and respect.

The practice generally performed better than local averages in the 2025 National GP Patient Survey (GPPS) in relation to caring aspects of the service. This showed people felt listened to and felt they were treated with kindness.

  • For example, 88% of respondents said the healthcare professional they saw or spoke to was good at listening to them during their last general practice appointment and 86% said the healthcare professional they saw or spoke to was good at treating them with care and concern during their last general practice appointment. This compared with local averages of 85% and 84% respectively, and national averages of 87% and 86%
  • 86% of respondents said the healthcare professional they saw or spoke to was good at considering their mental wellbeing during their last general practice appointment, compared with the local average of 72%. (National average 74%)
  • 87% of respondents found the reception and administrative team at this GP practice helpful, compared with the local average of 80%. (National average 83%)
  • 84% of respondents described their overall experience of this GP practice as good, compared with the local average of 73%. (National average 75%)

The GPPS data was supported by results of the Friends and Family Test (FFT) and direct feedback we received from patients. There had been over 1,000 responses to the FFT between January 2025 and February 2026. We noted 94% were positive regarding the practice, with 68% describing their experience as Very Good and 26% as Good. Some patients had included comments in their FFT responses, which were generally very positive about caring aspects the service.

We received feedback from 8 patients whose views supported the positive results regarding caring aspects of the service. Their comments included:

  • “Everyone is very helpful and caring.”
  • “The staff and doctors are wonderful…helpful and polite.”
  • “I feel at ease to ask questions or raise concerns in relation to my tests.”
  • “The team is amazing.”

Staff had received training in Consent, the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and in relation to people with learning disabilities and autism. Staff understood Gillick competency and there was a process to ensure young adults had control over their own privacy and the amount of parental involvement in managing their care and support. Staff had undertaken chaperone training and notices informing patients that chaperones were available were posted in the consultation rooms.

We received feedback from 7 staff members. They were very positive regarding the culture of the practice. It was apparent that they worked together to provide a patient-centred and caring service. Patient feedback was positive regarding the continuity of care the practice offered.
