Kindness, compassion and dignity

Score: 4

The provider was exceptional at treating people with kindness, empathy and compassion and in how they respected people’s privacy and dignity. Staff always treated colleagues from other organisations with kindness and respect. The management team continuously looked at ways to improve care provided, and regularly completed lessons learnt to drive improvement.

There was a strong person-centred culture instilled by the manager, which helped guide staff to care for people with genuine kindness and empathy

This caring approach extended beyond people using the service to include relatives. Relatives were warmly welcomed and supported to spend meaningful time with their loved ones.Relatives told us, “There is nothing to improve on, I would struggle to find a better home.”

Our observations confirmed these views. Interactions between staff and people was genuine, respectful and person-centred, creating a welcoming atmosphere throughout the service. Staff knew individuals exceptionally well and supported them to engage in meaningful activities. One person said, “The staff are really good at encouraging activities.” We saw people engaging in activities throughout the day, in groups, pairs and individually. There was an exercise class, people doing jigsaws, quizzes and a film afternoon. People were laughing, chatting and thoroughly enjoying the social stimulation. Every interaction reflected patience and respect, promoting autonomy and enhancing emotional and physical wellbeing. This culture of kindness and compassion was embedded in everyday practise, ensuring people consistently experienced exceptional care that prioritised dignity, respect and choice. Feedback we received from visiting professionals confirmed this.
