Our view of the service
Date of assessment: 01 and 02 July 2026. West Common Lane Teaching Practice is an NHS GP practice located in Scunthorpe and delivers service to 7,714 patients under a contract held with NHS England. The National General Practice Profiles states that 94.6% of patients are White, 3.1% Asian, 0.4% Black, 1.1% Mixed and 0.7% Other. Information published by Office for Health Improvement and Disparities shows that deprivation within the practice population group is in the 2nd decile (2 of 10). The lower the decile, the more deprived the practice population is relative to others. This assessment considered the demographics of the people using the service, the context the service was working within and how this impacted service delivery. People's experience of this service
People were positive about the quality of their care and treatment. Recent survey results, including those from the NHS Friends and Family Test and the National GP Patient Survey, showed people were mostly satisfied with services with 95% of patients stating they had confidence and trust in the last healthcare professional they saw or spoke with (national average 92.5%). There was an active Patient Participation Group (PPG) who represented the views of people using the service. Representatives from the PPG described how managers listened to their views and implemented changes as a result. For example, the practice improved patient engagement through social media by providing clearer explanations of how practice systems, such as the appointment booking system, worked. In addition, following a presentation arranged by the practice for the PPG on the services available, further information was shared with patients about the support and services that social prescribers could offer.
