Our view of the service
We carried out this announced on-site inspection on 23 September 2026.
We found the practice had not met all regulations.
Not all risks associated with the undertaking of regulated activities had been suitably mitigated.
The practice recruitment procedures did not fully reflect relevant legislation to help them employ suitable staff and the practice did not have an effective system to monitor staff training to ensure action could be taken quickly if training requirements were not being met.
Infection prevention and control procedures were mostly in-line with published guidance.
Staff mostly followed current guidance in the care and treatment provided. They treated patients with dignity and respect and ensured access to care, support, and treatment when required.
Galley Hill Dental Surgery is in Hemel Hempstead and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children.
There was step-free access to the practice and car parking spaces available in nearby streets.
The practice had 3 treatment rooms, with an additional treatment room that was currently not in use. At the time of our inspection, there was a total of 12 staff, of which there was the principal dentist, 2 associate dentists, 4 dental nurses, including 1 trainee dental nurse, 3 dental hygienists and 2 receptionists. We gathered feedback from staff and spoke to a range of staff during our inspection including 2 dentists, 3 dental nurses, 1 dental hygienist and 1 receptionist.
The provider was not complying with Regulation 17 Good governance. Full details of the regulation the provider was not meeting are within the inspection report.
We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this inspection.
