Our view of the service

Date of Assessment: 1 to 10 September 2025. Longtown Medical Centre is a GP practice which delivers service to 3,842 patients under a contract held with NHS England. The National General Practice Profiles states that the practice population has a higher-than-average proportion of patients over the age 65 (25.4% compared to the national average of 17.8%).

Information published by Office for Health Improvement and Disparities shows that deprivation within the practice population group is in the 3rd decile (3 of 10). The lower the decile, the more deprived the practice population is relative to others.

This assessment considered the demographics of the people using the service, the context the service was working within and how this impacted service delivery. Where relevant, further commentary is provided in the quality statements section of this report.

This was a planned comprehensive assessment carried out to assess the quality of services being delivered, due to the length of time since the last Inspection in 2015.

People's experience of this service

People were positive about the quality of their care and treatment. Recent survey results, including from the National GP Patient Survey, Give Feedback on Care and the NHS Friends and Family Test, showed people were very satisfied with services provided by the practice. Patient feedback was very positive, regarding access to appointments, feeling treated with dignity and respect by staff, and the quality of care provided by professional staff.

There was a patient participation group (PPG). The practice recognised the need to expand the PPG to represent the views of all people using the service and was actively looking to do so. Representatives from the PPG described how managers made positive changes because of feedback, such as the practice using social media proactively to update the public with accurate information on events or issues in the practice.
