Equity in access

The GP national patient survey carried out from January to March 2024 had 90 responses. This found 84% of patients had a fairly to very good experience of contacting the practice, 95% of patients that responded found the reception staff fairly to very helpful. Twenty three percent found contact through the website fairly to very easy and 80% of patients found it fairly to very easy to contact the practice by phone. The practice had carried out their own survey in 2024, where 569 patients had responded and 89% found it very or fairly easy to get through to the surgery. 74% were satisfied with the appointment times, and 77% answered they were able to get an appointment when they needed.

The practice manager explained that they had only recently commenced online consultations, and these were not available at the time of assessment. In addition, they did not have a system in place to ensure the consultations were responded to appropriately and promptly.

Patients could either telephone or walk in to book appointments. Reception staff were undergoing care navigation training to ensure they enabled patients to access the appropriate appointment. At the time of the assessment the practice did not have any guidance for reception staff to follow regarding the triage of patients to the appropriate appointments.

The practice submitted unverified data from 16 December 2024 to 16 March 2025, which demonstrated the practice had carried out 3,637 appointments with clinical staff, of these 2,330 were face to face. The practice manager explained at the time of the assessment they did not review the appointment data, because patients were mostly satisfied with their service.

The practice is open from 8.00 am to 6.30 pm Monday to Friday, and patients have access to out of hours services in an evening and at weekends.
