Our view of the service

Date of assessment: 6 May to 22 May 2025. Manor House is a care home providing personal care for autistic people and people with learning disabilities. We carried out this assessment due to the age of the current rating. At the time of our assessment the service was supporting 9 people. We looked at all quality statements. During our assessment we identified some environmental concerns, for example, radiators being hot to touch and some windows without restrictors in place. Following our assessment, we received confirmation these issues were being addressed. Accidents and incidents were analysed and trends identified to mitigate future risks. The service was clean, and people were protected from the risk and spread of infection.

Medicines were predominantly managed safely although carried over amounts were not always reflected on the medication administration records. Staff were knowledgeable about safeguarding and knew how to recognise and report abuse. People were involved in their support and care plans detailed people’s preferences. People had access to healthcare professionals and staff ensured their advice was followed. Staff and leaders were keen to ensure people received person centred care and support. Some management systems required embedding into practice ensuring they were effective in identifying and rectifying issues in a timely way.

We assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted.

People's experience of this service

People and relatives consistently reported that the provider delivered a safe service and provided good liaison with healthcare professionals. People were supported to attend healthcare appointments and relatives were kept informed. One relative said, “We do think [family member] is safe there [Manor House]. [Family member] walks within the local community on their own and doesn’t get lost, always returning at the time expected.” Another relative said, “[Family member] is looked after very well and is safe with their 1 to1 carer.” The service had a calm environment, within which sufficient, experienced staff worked with people to maintain their safety, welfare, wellbeing and interests. People told us staff were supportive. One person said, “The staff are very helpful and considerate, particularly in ensuring I eat appropriately because of my diabetes. I feel very cosy in my large bedroom and enjoy going bowling, to the bingo and shopping with my support workers. I have great independence here and I get out at least twice a week.” People and relatives were complimentary about the leadership of the home and told us they were involved and included. One relative said, “I have no complaints about the service; [family member’s] interests are well met and if I had any complaints, I would certainly tell them and I know who to contact. All the staff are fine.”
