Our view of the service

Date of assessment: 28 July 2026. Abbey Rose is a care home. The service is registered to provide accommodation and residential and nursing care for up to 24 older people. The home is a large and detached building spread over two floors. There was a large communal lounge and dining area on the ground floor. Access to the first floor was via lift or two staircases and there were accessible outside areas to the rear of the home and an enclosed garden. At the time of this assessment 18 people were living at Abbey Rose.

The provider was not carrying out regular checks or audits to ensure effective oversight within Abbey Rose. They had not identified the shortfalls we found.

The provider did not always focus on innovation and improvement across the organisation. They did not always encourage creative ways of delivering equality of experience and quality of life for people. For example, the environment was not conducive to supporting people living with Dementia to navigate the home and the environment was in need of decoration and refurbishment.

We received mixed feedback regarding activities, and we observed limited interactions with people that wasn’t task orientated.

People received their medicines as prescribed. However, some monitoring records had not been completed accurately.

The home was clean, however carpets, furnishings and paintwork were worn.

We observed staff were friendly and knew people well.

Staff completed safeguarding training, were aware of their responsibility to identify and report potential abuse. Recruitment records were robust, all pre-employment checks completed prior to them starting. Staff retention was good, ensuring consistency for people.

Staff were supported in their role with good access to training and supervision.

Staff knew people well and were alert to any changes in their well-being and health and sought professional advice in a timely way.

Staff supported people to maintain relationships that matter to them, such as family and friends.
