Caring
Caring – this means we looked for evidence that the provider involved people and treated them with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect.
At our last assessment we rated this key question good. At this assessment we reviewed 1 quality statement, and the rating has stayed the same This meant people were supported and treated with dignity and respect; and involved as partners in their care. People received care and support from staff who were caring and compassionate. There was a culture where people’s independence and choice were promoted.

Independence, choice and control
The provider promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing.
Staff promoted people’s independence and choice, and this was evidenced in our observations and conversations with people, relatives and staff. We saw warm and trusting relationships between people and staff, and it was clear staff knew people, their histories and preferences well.
People were provided with equipment to support them to be able to eat their meals as independently as possible. The mealtime experience was relaxed and sociable and people were offered choice and variety. Where people needed support to mobilise, their independence was promoted. One relative commented, “[Name of relative’s] needs fluctuate, some good days and some bad but staff are aware and follow their lead.”
People and relatives gave positive feedback about the caring nature of staff. Comments included, “They are very caring. They have a laugh with [name of relative]” and “[Name of relative] has cheeky jokes with staff and I feel they have a good rapport.”
We received feedback from 1 healthcare professional who commented, “I observed staff to be caring and flexible, always giving their all and more.”
