Our view of the service
Date of Assessment: 23 April 2025. The Eston Surgery is a GP practice and delivers service to 3,798 patients under a contract held with NHS England. The National General Practice Profiles states that 96% of the population served by this practice are white, less than 2% are Asian and of mixed ethnicity, and less than 1% are black or another ethnicity. Information published by Office for Health Improvement and Disparities shows that deprivation within the practice population group is in the 1st decile (1 of 10). The lower the decile, the more deprived the practice population is relative to others. This assessment considered the demographics of the people using the service, the context the service was working within and how this impacted service delivery. Where relevant, further commentary is provided in the quality statements section of this report.
There were enough staff with the right skills, qualifications and experience. Managers made sure staff received training and regular appraisals to maintain high-quality care. Staff managed emergency medicines well.
People were involved in decisions about their care. The service provided information people could understand. People knew how to give feedback and were confident the service took it seriously and acted on it. The service was accessible and worked to eliminate discrimination. People received fair and equal care and treatment. The service worked to reduce health and care inequalities through training and feedback. People were involved in planning their care and understood options around choosing to withdraw or not receive care.
People's experience of this service
People were positive about the quality of their care and treatment. Recent survey results, including from the National GP Patient Survey and the NHS Friends and Family Test, showed people were satisfied with services. The January 2025 and April 2025 NHS Friends and Family Test results showed 97% of respondents felt positively about their overall experience of this service, which was 5% higher than the national average response. Additionally, the National GP Patient Survey showed that 80% of respondents would describe their overall experience of this practice as good, which was higher than the national average of 74%. There was 1 review made by people on the NHS UK website within the last year, which was positive feedback. The practice had also conducted their own patient survey from October 2024 to December 2024, in which 100% of respondents described their overall experience of this service as excellent, very good, or good. There was not an active patient participation group (PPG) who represented the views of people using the service. Practice leadership told us they had held drop-in sessions, contacted patients, and advertised the PPG in the waiting room in an effort to recruit members.
