Caring
We looked for evidence the service involved people and treated them with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect. At our last assessment, we rated this key question as good. At this assessment, the rating remains the same.
This service scored 75 (out of 100) for this area. Find out what we look at when we assess this area and How we calculate these scores.
Kindness, compassion and dignity
The service treated people with kindness, empathy and compassion and respected their privacy and dignity. Staff treated colleagues from other organisations with kindness and respect. There was a separate room available for people requiring a private conversation away from the reception desk. To support breastfeeding mothers, there was a clinical room available for their use upon request. There were confidentiality and dignity policies in place to further assist staff to know how to maintain confidentiality.
Staff that chaperoned were aware of their responsibilities in maintaining a person’s dignity and safety during an intimate examination. Staff we spoke with understood Gillick competency and there was a process to ensure young adults had control over their own privacy and the amount of parental involvement in managing their care and support. (Gillick competency refers to the legal ability of a child under 16 to consent to medical treatment without parental consent, provided they have sufficient understanding and intelligence to appreciate the treatment's nature, risks, and alternatives).
Arrangements were in place to promote people’s privacy. National GP Patient Survey data from 2025 reflected people felt they were treated with kindness. For example, 93% of people who responded stated the healthcare professional treating them with care and concern during their last appointment, this was above the national average of 86%. In addition, 82% of respondents responded positively to the overall experience of their GP practice, this was again above the national average of 75%. Feedback from the service’s NHS Friends and Family Test survey showed that approximately 100% of people felt the service they received was good or very good.
Feedback from the PPG was very positive. They commented all staff were helpful, professional and efficient, with clinical staff being approachable and listening to people.
