Governance, management and sustainability

Regulations met

Improvements had been made to the oversight and governance of the practice. The provider told us they had introduced a dedicated day for administration each week allowing them to keep on top of tasks.

The practice had made improvements to the control of substances hazardous to health (COSHH). Safety data sheets were now available for all substances and organised in an easily accessible manner.

We previously noted one of the dental chairs had a cracked bracket table and was generally in disrepair. The provider covered the damaged area with a single use protective film which was changed between patients to ensure effective cleaning whilst the chair was awaiting replacement. The provider had been working closely with the landlord to address the areas of mould identified during the previous inspection, and this work was due to be completed shortly.

The provider demonstrated the processes they had implemented to ensure that maintenance and servicing of equipment and premises was completed at the required intervals. This included an online reminder system which alerted them when servicing was due.

Improvements had been made to the management of fire safety and recommendations from the fire risk assessment had all been completed.

The provider had not recruited any new staff since the last inspection. However, recruitment documentation for existing staff was well-organised and the provider talked us through the processes and checks they would conduct when recruiting in future.

Improvements had been made to the oversight of continuing professional development (CPD). The provider had systems in place to ensure mandatory topics were completed at the required intervals. These were reviewed regularly.

The provider had made improvements to the oversight of referrals. They had implemented a log centrally recording referrals made by all clinicians at the practice meaning referrals could be monitored and followed up, particularly urgent ones.

At our previous inspection, we found that accident logs were insufficient and did not contain action plans or shared learning. The provider had introduced a new template for logging accidents which was thorough, allowing space for reflection and actions for the team to prevent future accidents.

Improvements had been made to the practice’s auditing processes. We reviewed several audits which had been completed since our last inspection, all of which contained action plans that were discussed at team meetings. The provider had implemented a reminder system to alert them when each audit was due.
