Our view of the service
Date of Assessment: 21 January 2026 to 5 March 2026 with on-site visits taking place on 21 January, 23 January, 29 January and 11 February 2026. Cressington Court Care Home is a residential care home providing accommodation and personal care to up to 56 people. There were 52 people living at the home, some of whom were living with dementia. This was a responsive assessment due to concerns we received about people’s safety. We found 4 breaches of the legal regulations in relation to need for consent, safe care and treatment, safeguarding and good governance.
We identified people’s finances were not always managed effectively. We identified significant shortfalls and serious concerns with governance arrangements in place. The provider did not adhere to the principles of the Mental Capacity Act. Care plans and records could not be relied on to support safe care. We found there was not always guidance for staff on how best to provide support for health conditions such as diabetes, with a lack of guidance and up to date information to recognise if the condition was deteriorating. We identified the provider did not always make sure medicines and treatments were safe and met people’s needs, capacities and preferences. They did not always involve people in planning. There was an acting home manager who was not registered with the Care Quality Commission.
In instances where CQC have decided to take civil or criminal enforcement action against a provider, we will publish this information on our website after any representations and/or appeals have been concluded.
People's experience of this service
Relatives were positive about the support their loved ones received. One relative described the atmosphere as ‘relaxed’ and another person’s loved one said, “Vast majority are friendly to mum and try get a smile out of her. They do work hard.” Some people could not directly tell us about their experience, so we observed people and the staff providing care and support. We observed some inappropriate activities which had a detrimental impact on people mental wellbeing. We observed staff treating people kindly and permanent staff knew people well. However, we observed some staff did not know people names or what was important to them.
