Our view of the service
Acquah Lodge- 60 Dalkeith Grove provides supported living to people with learning disabilities and autistic people in Harrow. At the time of this assessment the service provided support 19 people in a total of 4 supported living schemes in Harrow.
CQC only inspects the service received by people provided with 'personal care'; help with tasks related to personal hygiene and eating. Where they do, we also take into account any wider social care provided.
Assessment activity started on 4 March 2026 and ended on 26 March 2026.
The last rating for this service was good (published 14 February 2019). This assessment was planned due to the length of time since our last rating. Following this assessment, the service remains good.
Some people using the service had a learning disability. We assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities most people take for granted.
Staff had a good understanding of the people they supported and respected their individual choices and wishes. Staff knew people’s communication preferences and were supported to provide good care to people. People were supported to have access to the community in line with their needs and preferences.
Care plans provided staff with the information they needed to support people safely and effectively. Staff had been trained in their role and felt supported by the registered manager. The registered manager acted on our feedback about areas that required further developments such as staff recruitment records and window restrictors in the services.
People were safely cared for. Risk assessments were in place, and they identified current risks to the person as well as ways for staff to minimise or appropriately manage those risks, including for positive risk taking. Systems were in place to manage people’s medicines safety.
People’s care and treatment achieved good outcomes and promoted quality of life. Assessments were completed, and care plans were reviewed regularly. Staff supported people to live healthier lives. Consent was respected, and staff understood the Mental Capacity Act.
People received care and support from a consistent team of staff. Staff were confident to raise any concerns, and senior staff checked on the quality and safety of care provided to people.
People's experience of this service
We visited 2 supported living services as part of this assessment. People using the service could not always communicate with us so we undertook general observations to understand the experience of the people and their care and how staff interacted with people and supported them. We met with 4 people who received care and were able to speak with 2 people. We also spoke with 4 relatives as part of this assessment.
People and relatives spoke positively about the service, describing staff as kind, respectful, and knowledgeable.
A relative we spoke with told us they were confident their family member was well cared for by staff who understood their needs. A relative said, “Overall I am happy with the service. I have peace of mind. The service has had a positive impact on [my family member] and my family.” Another relative told us, “I am very happy with the care. [My family member] is settled and happy. It is a gentle environment for [my family member].”
People were able to spend time the way they wanted. People could choose how to spend their recreational time and were able to go out in the community.
Staff understood people’s communication needs and adapted this to meet people’s individual needs. A relative told us, “My [family member] has limited verbal communication and we go by gestures. [My family member] is always happy to go back to the home and that is reassuring for me.”
People and relatives felt able to complain and were confident that if they did, appropriate action would be taken, and improvements would be made. They spoke positively about the management of the service and said that the registered manager always listened and was responsive.
