Our view of the service

Lincroft Meadow Care Home is a nursing home providing personal care to older people and people living with dementia. The service is provided within a purpose-built premises arranged over two floors and is registered to accommodate up to 70 people. There were 67 people using the service when we visited.

During this inspection we inspected the quality statements under the key questions of safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led.

We found that people were protected and kept safe by a team of caring and skilled staff who knew them well.

There were sufficient staff to meet people's needs and staff had time to spend with people. People's nutritional needs were met and staff supported people to maintain a healthy diet. Where people had specific dietary needs, these were met.

Risk assessments were carried out and promoted positive risk taking, which enabled people to live their lives as they chose. People received their medicines safely. Records relating to risks and medicines were accurate and up to date.

Staff were happy working at the service and told us they felt supported and listened to by management. Staff received appropriate training and supervision for their role.

There was a good culture within the service. Lessons learnt from accidents and incidents were shared with staff and staff were aware of how to keep people safe.

Staff worked closely with external professionals, both health and social care, to help ensure they provided the most appropriate care to people.

Governance arrangements were robust, and management and staff looked for ways to continually improve the service.

People's experience of this service

People said that they were happy living at the service. People told us the staff were caring and well trained. People said their individuality was recognised by staff and that they were supported to participate in activities of their choice and liking. There was a comprehensive and varied activity programme in place, which included trips out using the service’s minibus. Activities were adapted to meet individual needs, ensuring that everyone had opportunities to participate in ways that suited their preferences and abilities.

People’s health needs were regularly monitored, and staff sought timely input from healthcare professionals when required. This ensured that any changes in health were addressed promptly, supporting people to maintain and improve their wellbeing.

Feedback from staff, relatives, and visiting professionals consistently described the service as caring. People told us they felt happy and safe living at the service. Comments included: “I think it is a delightful, friendly atmosphere. I would be upset if I had to go somewhere else to live. Everybody is very friendly, believe me”. Another person said, “I settled in straight away. There is always a wait to get here because they have such a good reputation. Within six months I was here".
