Independence, choice and control
The provider always treated people with kindness, empathy and compassion and respected their privacy and dignity. Staff treated colleagues from other organisations with kindness and respect.
People we spoke with told us they were supported to have choice and control over their own care arrangements, and were encouraged to be independent and to make decisions about their care, treatment and wellbeing as much as possible. One person said the staff were, “Very respectful, always ask me what I want help with, keep me covered up when having a wash to respect my modesty. It’s very dignified.” Another person shared, “We chat all the time, They [staff] always ask if there’s anything else I need before they go, like making sure I have a glass of water to hand or a snack.”
Staff spoke positively about their roles and how they promoted people’s independence and choices. A member of staff told us, “I give support by involving people in decisions, give people a say in their daily routines, encouraging them to self-care, to try and do things for themselves.”
The registered manager told us that people were involved in their care planning along with their relatives and/ or representatives where appropriate. One person said, “Initially my daughter came over to meet the manager with me, to make sure everything was just so. We felt that we were being listened to, my questions were answered, it was clear what help they would give me and what I did not want help with. All agreed.”
