People were cared for well. People were supported to have maimum choice and control of thier lives and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible and in thier best intrerests polices and systems in the service supported this practice. The provider valued their staff team and encouraged their development.

There were no fixed schedules of activities, instead people were asked each day what they would like to do. Staff told us, “People go out, have days out, do normal regular stuff that you do” and “Person’s name goes out sometimes but does like to stay in quite a bit”.

People were in charge of how they spent their time and what they did each day. There were no fixed schedules of activities, instead people were asked each day what they would like to do. On the day of the site visit people went out shopping, some watched movies and others were involved in individual activities of their choosing.

Staff valued and respected people’s skills. People were supported to take on responsibility of tasks and chores within the service.

Workforce wellbeing and enablement

The registered manager valued their committed staff team and the provider had a range of systems in place to recognise and celebrate staff achievements. There was a internal staff recognition and reward scheme and nominations had been made to celebrate the achievements of Cross Keys staff team at regional care sector awards. Staff were encouraged and supported to engage with additional training and career development. One staff member was currently training for a nursing degree and all staff were supported to complete diploma level qualifications in care. Staff told us, “It’s a Good organisation to work for” and described how the registered manager had provided effective support during extended periods of absence.
