Kindness, compassion and dignity

Score: 3

The provider always treated people with kindness, empathy and compassion and respected their privacy and dignity. People told us they received support from a consistent staff team who were kind and caring.

People and relatives told us, “They are all so respectful of me” and “My privacy and dignity is respected at all times.”

Staff told us they are fully aware of their responsibilities to treat people with kindness, compassion and respect. One staff member told us, “I always show compassion, respect, kindness and empathy to all my service users.”

Treating people as individuals

The provider treated people as individuals and made sure people’s care, support and treatment met people’s needs and preferences. They took account of people’s strengths, abilities, aspirations, culture and unique backgrounds and protected characteristics. Care documentation was in place to guide staff on how best to support people as individuals and people told us they were treat as individuals. One person told us, “Staff know me very well and what I like. I know them too. We always have a bit of a chat.”

Independence, choice and control

The provider promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing. People told us staff promoted their independence and allowed people to do what they could for themselves. Care plans included information about people’s interests and important relationships.

Responding to people’s immediate needs

The provider listened to and understood people’s needs, views and wishes. Staff responded to people’s needs in the moment and acted to minimise any discomfort, concern or distress. Staff were knowledgeable and insightful about people’s needs and how best to support them in a consistent and effective manner. Staff told us they were aware to call the office to report any immediate changes in a person’s care needs.

Workforce wellbeing and enablement

Score: 3

Managers cared about and promoted the wellbeing of their staff and supported staff to deliver person-centred care. Staff told us, “The management team is always supportive”, “Staff morale is very high and I feel valued”, “Management is supportive and approachable” and “The management team are supportive, professional and approachable at all times. They are always reachable and available at any time of the day.”

The service operated an open-door policy with the opportunity for anyone to go into the office for a chat in private.
