Our view of the service
Date of assessment: 31 July 2025.
Brookdell House is based in Barrowford and is a residential substance misuse service offering a psycho-social model of care. It does not offer a detoxification service.
The provider is Holgate House Limited. The service is registered to provide the regulated activity of accommodation for persons who require treatment for substance misuse. The service had a registered manager in post at the time of our assessment.
This location has been registered with CQC since December 2017. Our last assessment was in 2019 when we rated the service as good in all domains. We assessed the service this time because of the aged ratings.
On this assessment we found that all domains were still rated as good.
The service had developed holistic, recovery-oriented care plans informed by a comprehensive assessment. They provided a range of treatments suitable to the needs of the clients.
Managers ensured that staff received training, supervision and appraisal. Staff worked well together as a multidisciplinary team and with relevant services outside the organisation.
Feedback from people who used the service, those who were close to them and stakeholders was continually positive about the way staff treated people. People thought that staff went the extra mile, and their care and support exceeded their expectations.
However, consent to treatment was not consistently recorded within the clients’ records.
