Our view of the service

Date of assessment: Tuesday 3 February 2026.

Reason for assessment: This assessment was carried out to identify if the required improvements had been made following a previous inspection in October 2023. Parklands Court Care Home is a residential care home providing personal and nursing care to up to 163 people. The service provides support to older people, some of whom are living with dementia, people with a physical disability and younger adults. At the time of our assessment there were 84 people using the service. At our last assessment the service was in breach of the legal regulation in relation to good governance. At this assessment, some improvements had been made. However, the provider did not always have robust systems or auditing processes to ensure good governance. The provider’s governance systems had not identified the concerns we found in relation to medicines, mattress settings, staffing and long gaps in documentation. This meant there was a continued breach of the regulation relating to good governance.

However, staff provided person-centred care and treated people as individuals while promoting independence and choice. The service provided effective care, characterised by structured handovers, internal communication, and effective partnership working with external professionals. Both in-house and community-based activities were facilitated to enhance quality of life for people using the service. Staff gained consent from individuals where appropriate and followed processes to act in people’s best interests when they were unable to make decisions about their care. The service managed complaints, incidents and accidents effectively.

Staff were trained, with specialised knowledge in dementia care that enabled them to provide compassionate support.

In instances where CQC has begun a process of regulatory action, we may publish this information on our website after any representations and/or appeals have been concluded, if the action has been taken forward.

People's experience of this service

People told us they felt safe living in the home. People were encouraged to provide feedback or raise concerns openly with the staff team and they felt staff acted on their feedback. People described how staff treated them kindly and ensured their privacy and dignity were respected. People told us that staff were always consistent in terms of responding to their immediate needs. However, our observations found that people assessed as high risk of falls were not always supported by staff in a timely manner. People were involved in decisions about their care; health professionals were contacted as and when required and people said staff supported them to attend medical appointments. Relatives told us the provider kept them updated and effectively communicated any changes in people’s health or support needs.
