Our view of the service
Inspection activity started on 1 September 2025 and finished on 6 October 2025. We visited the service on 3 and 15 September 2025.
High Trees Residential Home is a care home for up to 16 people for older people, younger adults and people with a learning disability or autism. At the time of our visit 14 people resided at the home.
We have assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted.
Some improvements were needed to ensure the environment and recruitment procedures were safe. The service had a good learning culture and people could raise concerns. Managers investigated incidents thoroughly. Staff understood and managed risks well. Staff understood their roles and responsibilities. Staff managed medicines well and involved people in reviewing any changes.
People engaged in assessments of their needs. Staff reviewed assessments taking account of people’s communication, personal and health care needs. Care was based on latest evidence and good practice. Staff monitored people’s health to support healthy living and make sure people always had enough to eat and drink. Staff made sure people understood the care and support they received to enable them to give informed consent. Staff involved those important to people and took decisions in people’s best interests where they did not have mental capacity.
Managers and staff had a shared vision and culture within the care home based on listening, learning, and trust. The registered manager was knowledgeable and supportive, helping staff develop in their roles. They treated staff fairly and respected their wellbeing. Staff felt supported to give their feedback. Managers collaborated with the local community to deliver the best possible care and were receptive to innovative ideas. There was a culture of continuous improvement with staff given time and resources to try innovative ideas.
