People should be protected from abuse and staff should respect their human rights (outcome 7)

Meeting this standard

We checked that people who use this service

  • Are protected from abuse, or the risk of abuse, and their human rights are respected and upheld.

How this check was done

We looked at the personal care or treatment records of people who use the service, carried out a visit on 22 October 2013 and talked with carers and / or family members.

Our judgement

People who use the service were protected from the risk of abuse because the provider had taken reasonable steps to identify the possibility of abuse and prevent abuse from happening.

Reasons for our judgement

We saw that the service had an up to date policy on the safeguarding of vulnerable adults. We spoke with the care worker who was able to demonstrate that they had a good understanding of the types of abuse that might occur. They told us that they had attended relevant training whilst completing the health and social care qualification they had recently gained.

The care worker showed us that they had the contact details for the local authority safeguarding team. They told us that they would not hesitate to make a referral to the adult safeguarding team if they suspected that any abuse had occurred.
