Governance, management and sustainability

Regulations met

At the inspection on 1 July 2025, we found the practice had made the following improvements to comply with the regulations:

An Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) had been completed in April 2025, with the outcome recorded as satisfactory.

A fire risk assessment had been completed by an external company and all actions resulting from this had been completed. We saw that the practice was carrying out all required testing and maintenance of the fire systems.

Hazardous substances were stored safely.

We were told that references had been requested for the newly recruited staff members. Additionally, we saw that staff had obtained evidence of immunity to Hepatitis B. This highlighted that 2 staff members did not have suitable levels of immunity. This was being followed up and an associated risk assessment had been completed.

We saw that improvements had been made to the decontamination of used dental instruments, which now aligned with national guidance.

Improvements were still required to ensure the practice’s sharps procedures were compliant with the Health and Safety (Sharp Instruments in Healthcare) Regulations 2013. Safer sharps were not being used, for example needle-blocks to remove and hold the needle cap which allow safe one-handed recapping. The practice manager told us that these could not be sourced. However, following feedback, we were told that these would be purchased. We were told that dentists were now dismantling used sharps, and the sharps bin had been moved into the treatment room.
