Our view of the service
Date of assessment: 26 May 2026. Chetwynd House is a residential home providing support to people over the age of 18, including those living with dementia. At the time of the assessment, the service was supporting 65 people with their personal care needs.
Chetwynd House was last rated requires improvement (published 3 February 2026).The assessment on 26 May 2026 was carried out to follow up on enforcement action and review the improvements we asked the provider to take to address these concerns. The provider was previously in breach of the legal regulation in relation to safe care and treatment, and quality monitoring and governance. Improvements had been made and the provider was no longer in breach of regulation. This responsive assessment focused on quality statements within safe and well-led. In total 7 quality statements were assessed. The scores for these areas have been combined with scores based on the key question ratings from previous inspections.
Since the previous assessment, there had been clear and sustained improvements across the service, driven by strengthened leadership and a renewed focus on staff development and governance processes. The appointment of a new manager had had a positive impact, with the management team taking proactive steps to upskill staff and enhance systems to ensure people received their medicines safely.
Robust auditing processes were embedded and consistently applied. These audits were effective in identifying areas for improvement and, where concerns were identified, timely action was taken. This included direct engagement with staff to reinforce understanding, provide support, and address any training needs, thereby reducing the likelihood of recurrence and promoting continuous improvement.
Communication within the service had also improved significantly. Daily multidisciplinary meetings were held consistently and included staff from all areas of the home, such as care, kitchen, and maintenance teams. This collaborative approach ensured that important information was shared promptly, enabling staff to respond effectively to people’s needs and prioritise care appropriately.
Overall, these developments demonstrated a cohesive, well-led service with improved oversight, communication, and a strong commitment to delivering safe care.
People's experience of this service
Following the last assessment, the provider had reviewed and updated care plans. Where needed or when people requested, their relatives and advocates were now included in these reviews.
People consistently told us they felt safe living at Chetwynd House. Everyone we spoke with told us they knew how to raise concerns and would be confident to do so if the need arose. Where one person had raised a concern, they confirmed the management team had been responsive and supportive.
