Our view of the service
Date of assessment: 6 January 2026. Chetwynd House is a residential home providing support to people over the age of 18, including those living with dementia. At the time of the assessment, the service was supporting 59 people with their personal care needs.
Chetwynd House was last rated requires improvement (published 23 December 2025). The assessment on 6 January 2026 was carried out to follow up on enforcement action and review the improvement we ask the provider to take to address these concerns. This responsive assessment focused on quality statements within safe and well-led. In total 11 quality statements were assessed. The scores for these areas have been combined with scores based on the key question ratings from previous inspections. The provider was previously in breach of the legal regulation in relation to safe care and treatment, infection prevention and control (IPC), medicines management and quality monitoring and governance. Improvements were identified in some areas however the provider remained in breach of regulation relating to safe care and treatment, medicine management and governance.
Medicines were not always managed safely. Since our last assessment improvements had been made to ‘as needed’ medicines, people now received these safely and staff had clear guidance on when and how to support people. However, concerns remained with medicines being administered after their expiry date and the quality monitoring audit did not identify these concerns. Care plans and risk assessments did not always identify known risk of medicines clearly.
The home environment and equipment used were now consistently maintained and cleaned to a high standard. People were supported to transition between services, and access support or additional services in a safe and timely way.
People's experience of this service
Following the last assessment, the provider has reviewed and updated care plans. However, people and relatives we spoke with told us they were still not routinely included in their care planning and reviews. Despite this, people confirmed they felt safe living at Chetwynd House and staff were knowledgeable and supported them in line with their wishes.
Everyone we spoke with told us they knew how to raise concerns and would be confident to do so if the need arose. Where one person had raised a concern, they confirmed the management team had been responsive and supportive.
